Are you the honest 2%?

There are only two kinds of people in this world — those you’d always like to hang out with, and those you don’t really want to see again — which one is you? 😉 It’s a no-brainer that 98% of interviewees in a study think they’re the popular one.

According to stats concluded by Jonathan Freeman, a psychology professor at Goldsmiths, 98% of us consider ourselves friendlier than others.

Obviously, this is false. 👎 People ruin our days all the time. The cognitive bias behind is called “Illusory Superiority.” Or, if you want, The Better-Than-Average Effect, you get it. We’re just going to skip the science and get to the point — sometimes we can’t help being the jackass in the room. 💩

Nobody wants to be like Draco Malfoy. And everybody knows how to spell H-U-M-B-L-E if you know Kendrick. But let’s face it, we usually think we’re above average in general. Prettier face, bigger brain, and fancier social lives are just a couple.

The most common example is — driving. 🚗 We always know we’re the better driver out on the streets. That Honda doesn’t even know what a left turn is.

Again, this is a cognitive bias. It’s a trap. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live, what you own. It happens to all of us and more often than not and we don’t realize it.

This is when assumptions are easily made and causing conflicts and disagreements. We’ve all thrown a death stare at someone some time, somewhere.

What are we trying to say? Don’t be Draco. If you think everybody’s ruining your day, maybe you’ve fallen into the brain trap. We don’t always have to be the superior human in the room. Or do we?

Sirius Black is probably one of the wisest characters of all time. If you wizards/witches remember in the Goblet of Fire he once said: ”If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”

We’re not trying to be anybody’s life teacher here, but if anything important is present, it’s this quote that echoes forever.
