Did You Know Cheetahs Get Turned On By Meows?

Animals ovulate in two ways. One is “automatic,” which is what we’re familiar with. It just happens on a schedule, and nothing can really stop it. The other is by triggering, which requires a kick to push the egg out.
For example, male cats are born with dicks that have thorns on them. It was there to trigger the male cat to produce new eggs. Without the stimulation, there would be no eggs.
The world’s fastest big cat, cheetahs, has held the biggest mystery for years. Nobody really knew how they get turned on. Because they don’t fall into either of the categories above. Asexual? Not really.
So male cheetahs love to “meow.” Later, researchers found female cheetahs had higher chances of pregnancy when they got “meowed” at. This is the trigger. The meow, the howl, the squeak. All the sex hormones in the female cheetah, estrogen, and progesterone, explodes and pushes out eggs for baby-making.
It’s super rare to see audio-triggered mechanisms like this in the natural world. (DJ drops the PH intro)
Btw, had to share with you how cheetahs sound like on an average day.
We’re not trying to pop out all the NSFW animal stories, although it may seem like it. Instead, the findings of how female cheetahs ovulate are a significant development in preserving them.
As of 2021, it’s estimated there are only around 7,100 cheetahs left in the wild. (Wildlifeday.org) They are currently listed as vulnerable according to the IUCN Red List status. Besides climate change, human hunting, and habitat destruction, the research on how they reproduce wasn’t explored before.
Also, on a side note, ovulation doesn’t always go hand in hand with being horny. Take cats, for example; female cats are horny all the time. If you’ve lived in the cities, you’ve heard of them at least once. When male cats smell that sexy pheromone, they know they’re about to get down to business. Only after stimulating the females with “thorns” can they start to ovulate.
In other words, sometimes you’re just horny, and ovulation is for another time. But in a cheetah’s case, meowing is everything.
