🧙🏻♂️ Russian folklore has long existed on how to keep milk fresh. Ever complained about how fast your milk goes bad? Well, the Russians suggest you throw in a frog in the cup, alive. It may sound like a hoax, but we’re here to make sure that scientists back up the idea.
⚗️ Studies have shown that amphibians produce an anti-bacteria substance through the skin. Initially, it’s a mechanism that protects frogs, lizards, and turtles from dirty germs and other microorganisms we can’t see. Theoretically, putting a frog into your milk does release the same substance, keeping it from going bad. (Don’t try this at home)
🧬 While we may never know what the taste is like IRL, the Russians inspired modern medicine development. Antibiotics, to name one, might be the most effective drug that helps fight bacterial infections for you and me.
🐍 Btw, a frog’s diet consists of mosquitoes, flies, and probably every other flying insect. I’d imagine it tastes like swamp juice if anything.
Of course, we know not all frogs are the same. Some are just green like me, without any super healing powers. For those of you who are wondering, the study specifically refers to the Russian Brown Frog.
Another interesting note is that frogs that survive under harsher environments are believed to have better bacterial protection, even toxic. And I thought Russia was a place difficult enough for frogs to survive?
