Did You Know? Koalas Can Sleep 20 Hours A Day
In case you missed it, I’ve always secretly wished to #reincarcerate as a cat for my next life. (if there’s not any lazier animal in existence) Now I might want to be a koala instead.
An average cat can sleep up to 12 hours or so a day. However, a koala tops that for eight more hours, coming to an average of 20 sleeping hours a day. They are truly, the Joey Van Winkle of the animal world. (Pigs, surprisingly, only sleep an average of 7 hours a day, gotta eat when you’ve got to eat)
The main reason why #joeys get so much #sleep lies in their diet — #eucalyptus leaves. There’s barely any calories. Besides water and fiber, it’s as #vegan as you can get. To save on energy, they just decided to shut down longer and not burn any fat.
On top of that, eucalyptus leaves are also #toxic. So toxic that it’s made to cure your athlete’s foot or whatever skin infection you might get. While koala stomachs are strong enough to digest some poison down the gut, they’re just too lazy to pick on any other food source.
Nobody wants toxic greens. They’re #leftovers. But koalas don’t really give a fuck. As long as they can chill and lay back whenever they want to, they’re down. That sort of serves as a reminder for those adopting the #blueoceanstrategy in life — maybe you don’t want to #compete so fiercely all the time. As much as #competition and #Darwin explained the rule of #survival in this world, focusing on your own shit might make you happier.
Oh yes, I almost forgot, don’t try to challenge 20 hours of sleep. You can’t win the koalas.
💡*tl;dr — Koalas are so vegan that they don’t even have enough calories to burn so they just sleep all day.💡
Misunderstandings for koalas have been around for a while. Rumor has hit that when koalas digest the leaves, their body produces alcohol and makes them sleepy. For some people, koalas are just always hungover.
That can’t be right. Because you gotta have some sugar to make alcohol. As far as eucalyptus goes, there isn’t even enough sugar to start with. It’s unlikely our cute friends are drunk all the time.
Another interesting myth is that koalas smell because they have this system that eliminates the poison from the eucalyptus intake. We want to know if this is true. Do koalas actually smell bad?
