Practice safe sex: tie your partner up.

You guessed it. Paul the #Octopus doesn’t have 8 arms. Not exactly. One of them is basically their dick 🍆. They have a tube-shaped testicle attached to it. What a camouflage. It’s called the “mating arm.”

When they are getting down to business, it’s kind of like Avatar. Remember? Pull, stretch, connect, and voila. Hold on, did we also tell you they’re antisocial? They shy away all the time. Wonder why?

Size is a huge problem for male octopuses. The females are often bigger and hungrier. But someone needs to keep the species alive, right? To avoid being literally eaten, they developed this social-distancing sex in case they need to GTFO. Octopuses are so 2020. 😷

Seriously, octopuses should really get into safer sex. Like tying their partners on the ground.

anatomy of the mating process.

So the mating arm is very different from a regular octopus arm. And the easiest way to tell them apart is to look for suckers. If there’s a sucker at the tip, you got an arm. But if you see a whole arm covered with those suction cups, it’s for sexy time. It’s there for a purpose. Some experts also suggest act it evolved from a standard arm.

Meanwhile, the mating process is actually a little more complicated than just sticking in and pulling out. Specifically, the male octopus needs to stick its “penis” into the female’s outer “skull.” It has to go through the right place at the right time. Long story short, they basically get preggo by being patted “in” the head.
