💸 March 24, 2021 marks the Equal Pay Day of this year. The global female income was expected to reach $24 trillion in 2020, up from nearly $20 trillion two years earlier. That’s a 20% increase in estimations globally. However, the interesting part is that women are expected to spend $43 trillion either through consumption or an exchange of money for goods and services in 2020. (Source: Frost & Sullivan, 2020)
🤔 Wait, but that doesn’t add up! The reason why the women population is predominantly spending more is because they are the ones out and about and trying to accomplish every mission impossible. No matter you’re a tired housewife or an independent working woman, compared to men, you’re just checking more off the list. Hence the gap between income and consumption.
🏬 Don’t blame shopaholics before you figure out the numbers. Stereotypes are very 2000s, and we need to stop being biased. There is still a long way to wage equality, but we’ll always get closer as long as we take the first step.
🙄 According to stats from the UN, the gender wage gap would at least take another 99 years to close up. It’s gonna take forever.
🤬 Besides, even though the gender wage gap is being discussed in #Fact121, the gender inequality index (GII) doesn’t take it into account. In other words, economic inequality is something that is omitted and needs to be paid attention to.
🥸 We want to serve as a friendly reminder. A reminder that tells you everybody has the right to choose a better life, but some people always face bigger obstacles on the way. And we should work together to recognize those obstacles and let everyone have the same opportunities to live the life they want.
